Pierobon sub-frame in place

The Pierobon rear sub-frame is now in place!

On the 1098, Ducati for sure has done a much better job on the weight saving compared to the 998/748. The rear standard sub frame weight is 2.9 kilo and the Pierobon 1.2 kilo. My total weight saving including removing turn indicators etc and replacing the standard plastic parts with race fairing is only 3.5 kilo. I was expecting to save more…..

When checking the total weight for the bike (without gas/petrol) and comparing to my old race 748 using the same scale I ended up with the following: 748R race ready 186 kg and 1098S street 192 kg.

Sub frames

From my friends at NF Racing www.nfracing.se I bought rear and front sub frames. The maker is Pierobon, well known Italian supplier to race teams. The quality and finish is excellent. The weight of the front piece is only 441 g and the rear 1 225 g. Will be interesting to weight the standard parts later as a reference.

Starting point - the bike

This is the bike, without the street fairings, they will not be used anyhow. Lots of things is planned to be removed or improved (hopefully)

1098S race bike - the project

After riding classic Ducati Superbikes since 1998 (916, 748R and 9998S) on the street and later only on the track participating in races, race training events and track days sessions, it was time for something new and easier to ride. And faster, I hope.
The plan is to spend the winter of 2011/2012 in the garage converting a stock Ducati 1098S – 2007 into my new race bike.
