It's not if you crash, it's when...

.
When I stopped by Ducati Stockholm the other day, I found this GBRacing Secondary Engine Cover. We all know that when you fall, the water pump cover almost always get’s destroyed and that the engine cases also gets damaged or at least scratched.

This cover is easy to replace, seems very solid and thick, I’m sure that can handle more than one crash, and compare to the cost of an engine casing it’s not expensive.
For sure easier mount and replace compared to similar Carbon fiber / Kevlar & Billet Aluminum covers solutions. I like details like the pre-drilled hole for the safety lock wiring of the oil filler cap (red arrow, first picture abowe)

Carbon fiber parts arrived

A nice surprise yesterday, we got a delivery of light weights parts from Moto Vision. Some parts on back order so there are hopefully more part arriving soon. Great finish, superb fit at a very competitive price.

Brake calipers bolts

Very nice bolts for the brake calipers. Delived by NFracing weighting 39 g compared to 47 g for the stock piece. Both in stainless steel, and I was surprised about the weight difference.  Changed due to that I need to safety lock wire, of course. The new item to the right.

Woodcraft clutch cover and R1 throttle control

I’m really impressed with this clutch cover from Woodcraft. Machined out of one piece of billet, Light weight and will for sure protect the clutch during a crash. Just look at that thick skid plate, thick enough to be flush with the fairing.

Also removed a touring item, the throttle control. The stock item has a very long stroke and I replaced it with a Yamaha R1 control. The Renthal grips, that are much thinner that the stock items that are thick and designed for street riding is a must have.

Pierobon sub-frame in place

The Pierobon rear sub-frame is now in place!

On the 1098, Ducati for sure has done a much better job on the weight saving compared to the 998/748. The rear standard sub frame weight is 2.9 kilo and the Pierobon 1.2 kilo. My total weight saving including removing turn indicators etc and replacing the standard plastic parts with race fairing is only 3.5 kilo. I was expecting to save more…..

When checking the total weight for the bike (without gas/petrol) and comparing to my old race 748 using the same scale I ended up with the following: 748R race ready 186 kg and 1098S street 192 kg.

Sub frames

From my friends at NF Racing www.nfracing.se I bought rear and front sub frames. The maker is Pierobon, well known Italian supplier to race teams. The quality and finish is excellent. The weight of the front piece is only 441 g and the rear 1 225 g. Will be interesting to weight the standard parts later as a reference.

Starting point - the bike

This is the bike, without the street fairings, they will not be used anyhow. Lots of things is planned to be removed or improved (hopefully)
